Our dog and The Toddler were not always friends. Over the last 2 years our dog has put up with a lot.
But today they are great friends and The Toddler is HUGE fan of just about any dog he meets. He's also a HUGE fan of books about dogs.
Here are our top books about dogs.
Bigsy the Dog has an action-packed morning routine on the farm. He is up early and off to greet the other animals on the farm. There’s the kangaroos, sheep, chooks, cows and Patchy the pig,
The animal sounds in this book are fantastic and very true to life. There’s lots of ways to engage your child when reading this book – count the animals, make the sounds…Think that dogs only say “Woof”? Think again!
Louie has just had a bath. He is not happy about it because his special smell has gone. This book follows Louie on his adventure to get his special smell back – to the bin, the fox, the pond…
This is a funny story with detailed illustrations (right down to the flies hovering over the bins). Catherine Rayner nails what happens on a dog’s adventure and when the dog returns home.
Hairy Maclary is a scruffy little black dog who is off for a walk about town. He meets his other dog friends.
The other dogs’ names in this book are charming Bottomley Potts, Hercules Morse and Muffin McLay. The dogs are having a fantastic time until they meet Scarface Claw, the town’s scariest tomcat.
The Toddler was given this book when he was a tiny baby. “Pip the Dog” is a funny rhyming story from the illustrator of The Gruffalo. Pip is a puppy dog with a very loud bark who likes to bark morning to night.
We know a dog who loves to bark and we replace Pip’s name with his name every time we read this story.
